Lynchburg fell 5-2 in the final game of a four-game series at Salem. The Red Sox took three out of four from the Hillcats in the series.

The Red Sox would start their offensive evening by scoring in the first inning for the fourth straight game in the series. Ryan Lavarnway's two-run home run would put Salem in front 2-0 through an inning.

In the second inning the Hillcats would cut that deficit in half with some aggressive base running from Carlos Mendez. After leading off the inning with a single, Mendez moved to second on a wild pitch and then while attempting to move to third on a pitch in the dirt, the Red Sox catcher Tim Federowicz through it into left and Mendez scored.

An inning later Lynchburg would tie the game at two. Josh Fellhauer doubled with two down in the frame, and then Alex Buchholz singled him in to knot up the contest at two a piece.

It stayed 2-2 through five innings thanks to a solid start by lefty Travis Webb and some help from his defense. Fellhauer through out the speedy Peter Hissey trying to score from second on a two-out single in the bottom of the fifth. It was the team-leading fourth outfield assist of the season for Fellhauer.

The Red Sox would take the lead back in the bottom of the seventh inning with three runs. Anthony Rizzo unloaded the bases with a two-out double to give the Sox a 5-2 lead in the series finale.

The win went to reliever William Latimer (1-1) for Salem (11-3)and the loss went to Jeremy Horst (0-1) for Lynchburg (5-10) who has now lost three in a row and five out of their last six.

The Hillcats continue their 13-game road swing on Friday night in game one of a three-game series at Potomac. Right-hander Mark Serrano (0-0, 6.75) will toe the rubber for Lynchburg opposite lefty Evan Bronson (1-0, 3.38) for the Nationals.
