
Magic Number to Four as BlueClaws Top Kannapolis 3-2 On

LAKEWOOD, NJ - A three-run third inning was more than enough for the BlueClaws who topped Kannapolis 3-2 on Tuesday night, lowering their magic number to four.
The win for Lakewood (40-24/69-64) is their 13th win in their last 15 games since losing three of four to Kannapolis (31-33/55-79) in a series that ended on August 14th. The BlueClaws remain three games ahead of Hagerstown, with just six games left in the regular season.
Kannapolis opened the scoring with a first inning RBI double from Seby Zavala off Harold Arauz, but it was a short-lived lead.
Lakewood took the lead in the third inning on a two-run single by Wilson Garcia and an RBI single by Deivi Grullon to put the BlueClaws up 3-1. The inning started when William Cuicas was hit by a pitch.
Kannapolis starter Jimmy Lambert, who took the loss, falling to 0-5, came out after 2.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits with a walk and four strikeouts.
Arauz, who improved to 5-6, pitched six innings for Lakewood, allowing two runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Since returning from the disabled list, Arauz has allowed five earned runs in 27.2 innings of work. Grant Dyer followed Arauz with two scoreless innings in relief. Dyer has allowed just two runs in his last 17 innings pitched.
Sutter McLoughlin earned his 12th save with a scoreless ninth inning.
Mark Laird had two hits in the win and extended his hitting streak to 12 games, over which is is now 20-48. Garcia added two hits as well for the BlueClaws.
The series with Kannapolis continues on Wednesday night at 7:05 pm. LHP Tyler Gilbert (7-8) starts for Lakewood against RHP Brannon Easterling (6-3).
