George's Three-Hit Night Not Enough as Tourists Fall 6
August 30, 2016 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Asheville Tourists News Release
ASHEVILLE, NC-- Max George followed up his big series in Greenville with a 3-for-4 night against the Hickory Crawdads. George pounded out two doubles, an RBI single, and scored a run but it was not nearly enough as the Crawdads knocked off the Asheville Tourists 6-2 in the series opener.
Hickory recorded 18 hits on the night; two shy of their season high. The visitors were led by LeDarious Clark who finished 4-for-5. Six of the Crawdads' first nine hits went for extra-bases; five doubles and a two-run Home Run by Ricky Valencia.
The Tourists trailed 5-0 heading to the bottom of the third when Terry McClure knocked in George for Asheville's first run. The bullpen did a nice job for Asheville by limiting Hickory to one run over the final six innings. Unfortunately, Crawdads' starter Luke Lanphere and reliever Peter Fairbanks kept the Tourists from rallying.
Javier Palacios started and suffered the loss. Palacios was hit hard in his three innings of work. Asheville ended up using six pitchers in the game. Brian Mundell was the only other Tourist to finish with a multi-hit performance. The first baseman went 2-for-4 including his Minor League best 58th double of the season.
The same two teams will be back at it on Wednesday night at McCormick Field. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
