
South Atlantic League Announces 2016 Annual All-Star

Clearwater, Florida-Eric Krupa, President of the South Atlantic League, announced the selection of the 2016 Annual All-Star Team. The All-Star Team was voted on by the 14 South Atlantic League Team's Field Managers, General Managers, Sports Writers and Broadcasters for a total of 56 votes.
The Annual All-Star Team was highlighted by the selections for Most Outstanding Pitcher, Most Outstanding Major League Prospect and Most Valuable Player. Mitch Keller of the West Virginia Power was selected as the Most Outstanding Pitcher. Keller has an 8-5 record and an ERA of 2.46 in 23 games. Brendan Rodgers from the Asheville Tourists was named the Most Outstanding Major League Prospect. Brian Mundell of the Asheville Tourists was chosen as the Most Valuable Player. Mundell is leading the league in hits (164), extra base hits (72), total bases (265) and runs scored (90) in 129 games, including a SAL and Minor League Baseball record 57 doubles.
Patrick Anderson of the Hagerstown Suns has been selected as Manager of the 2016 Annual All-Star Team. Charleston pitching coach Justin Pope was chosen to be the Coach of the 2016 Annual All-Star team. The Asheville Tourists had three players named to the Annual All-Star Team, including Brian Mundell (first base and Most Valuable Player), Brendan Rodgers (shortstop and Most Outstanding Major League Prospect) and Yonathan Daza (outfielder). The Delmarva Shorebirds, Greenville Drive, Hagerstown Suns and Lakewood BlueClaws each placed two players on the team. The Shorebirds contributed Brian Gonzalez (left-handed pitcher) and Yermin Mercedes (catcher). The Drive provided Tate Matheny (outfielder) and Luis Alexander Basabe (utility outfielder). The Suns supplied Kelvin Gutierrez (third base) and Ian Sagdal (utility infielder). The BlueClaws provided Josh Tobias (second base) and Jose Pujols (outfielder). Charleston, Greensboro and West Virginia each had one representative on the All-Star Team. Charleston's Chris Gittens (designated hitter), Greensboro's CJ Robinson (relief pitcher) and West Virginia's Mitch Keller (right-handed pitcher and Most Outstanding Pitcher) complete the 2016 All-Star lineup.
