ABOUT LAST GAME: Columbia downed the Kannapolis Intimidators on Sunday evening, 8-6. The 3-hour and 42-minute affair was the longest 9-inning game of the season for the Fireflies. Dash Winningham broke a 6-6 tie with a two-run double in the top of the eighth. Craig Missigman picked up his third win of the year out of the bullpen.
ALL THEY DO IS WIN: Columbia has won eight of its last 10 games and has been victorious in three straight series.
WHERE NO FIREFLY HAS GONE BEFORE: Four consecutive series wins would be a season-best for the Fireflies.
DOING IT WITH OFFENSE: Columbia has scored more than five runs in nine of its last 13 games. The Fireflies' hitters have heated up. Manager Jose Leger's club has totaled 120 hits over its last 13 games - that's more than nine per game. Overall, Columbia's batting average over this 13-game span is .274. For perspective, the best hitting team in the league is Lakewood, which carries a .268 batting average.
WHAT A ROAD TRIP: Both Dale Burdick and Patrick Mazeika had great games while in Charleston and Kannapolis. Burdick finished 9-20 (.450) at the plate and racked up three extra-base hits and four RBIs. He's also on a season-best six-game hitting streak. Mazeika, on the other hand, totaled 11 hits in the six games (three multi-hit games) and drove in seven runs.
MAZEIKA'S MONTH-ER-YEAR: The catcher has hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games. Mazeika has also reached base safely in 21 of his 24 games in August. To stretch it back further, he's been on base safely in 39 of his last 43 games.
ROSTER MOVE: RHP Tyler Bashlor transferred back to Columbia and RHP Luis De Los Santos transferred to GCL Mets.
