Magic Bests Squadron 131-128 in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Birmingham Squadron fell to the Lakeland Magic for the second time in as many home games this season by a score of 131-128 on Tuesday night at Legacy Arena at the BJCC.

The Squadron (0-4) were led in scoring by Dereon Seabron's 26 points, while Javonte Smart tallied 25 and Zylan Cheatham pitched in 17 and also notched 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Jay Scrubb's 38 points led Lakeland (3-2), while Drake Jeffries came off the Magic bench to put up 24. Jemerrio Jones tallied a triple-double with 10 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists and Zavier Simpson was responsible for a Magic double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.

The back-and-forth game featured eight lead changes with Birmingham's largest reaching 17. The Magic outrebounded the Squadron 42-30 and outscored Birmingham in second chance points, 29-10.

Birmingham led 36-30 after one, 70-63 at halftime and 107-98 after three, but Lakeland outscored the Squadron 33-21 in the final quarter for the road victory.
