Magee Earns Rays 4-3 Shootout Win over Swamp Rabbits

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC-In his first game in nearly a month, Brandon Magee brought the crowd of 5,369 to its feet at the North Charleston Coliseum on Undie Sunday. Magee, skating in his first game since February 21, scored the game-winning goal in a shootout to lead the Stingrays (38-18-5-3) to a 4-3 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits (28-26-8-1). The afternoon saw the Stingrays earn a comeback victory when trailing after the second period for only the second time this season. Marcus Perrier scored twice to help the Stingrays remain two points ahead of Florida for the top spot in the South Division. The Stingrays also collected packaged underwear that was thrown on the ice after the club's first goal for Carolina Youth Development Center.

The Swamp Rabbits would jump out to a 2-0 lead. Forward Jack Combs scored his 201st professional goal, cutting around South Carolina goaltender Mark Dekanich's right pad to make it 1-0 at 6:37 of the first period. The goal was Comb's 20th of the season.

Greenville would score again at the 18:21 mark on a goal setup by Combs. His shot to the net rolled off his stick, but he made a blind, backhand pass from behind the goal right on the tape of forward Scott Fleming. He beat Dekanich over the catching glove to make it 2-0 Greenville.

The Stingrays started to take over the game in the second period. Stephan Vigier scored only 36 seconds into the frame to send boxers, briefs, bras and panties flying to the ice. Forward Brett Cameron dished a pass across to Vigier on a two-on-one rush, and Vigier beat a diving Greenville goalie Mackenzie Skapski for his 23rd goal of the year.

The two teams would trade goals with Combs scoring his second goal of the game at 15:40, beating Dekanich through the five-hole. Perrier would respond with his first goal of the game, beating Skapski on a Joe Devin pass from the goal crease at 17:02 to make it 3-2.

Perrier scored to tie the game in the third period at the 9:00 mark. Joey Leach's stretch pass found Perrier on the left wing. He darted in over the blue line and snapped a shot over Skapski's right shoulder to make it 3-3. The goal was his 10th of the season.

The game progressed to overtime where Skapski came up with nine saves to force a shootout. Greenville entered the afternoon 4-0 in shootouts this season, but Magee and the Stingrays handed the Swamp Rabbits their first loss. Combs had the lone shootout goal for Greenville while Vigier and Magee scored for South Carolina. Magee's shot in the second-half of the fourth round beat Skapski under the left pad to give the Stingrays the win.

South Carolina outshot Greenville 40-27. The Stingrays were 0-for-2 on the power play while Greenville was 1-for-6.

The Stingrays hit the road for a pair of games in Atlanta next Thursday and Saturday. The Stingrays return home to host the Gladiators on Tuesday, March 29 at 7:05 p.m. It's our final Ladies Night of the season featuring $2 concession specials and free admission for all women 18 and up.
