Maday Works Career High In Augusta Win

Augusta, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets (34-23) opened a four game home-and-away series with the Greenville Drive (31-27) on Monday night with a 5-4 win. Starter Daryl Maday recorded the win working a career high seven innings and Augusta got a pair of two run homers from Nick Noonan and Angel Villalona.

Trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning, Augusta's Shane Jordan led off the frame with a single to set up Noonan who swung at the first pitch he saw and put it over the right-field wall for a 2-1 Augusta lead.

Three batters later after Garrett Baker drew a one out walk; Villalona pulled one over the left-field wall to give the GreenJackets a 4-1 advantage.

Thomas Neal's RBI double in the third inning gave Augusta a 5-1 lead and proved to be the game winning hit as the Drive scored three more times to pull within one.

Maday (4-4) allowed two runs on five hits while walking four and striking out four. Just named to the South Atlantic League All-Star Southern Division team earlier in the day, the right-hander retired the side in order in three of the seven innings he pitched.

Also named to the Southern Division All-Star team was closer Daniel Otero who recorded the final out in the ninth inning for his 15th save of the season.

Greenville got single runs in the fourth, seventh and ninth innings to pull the game to within one. David Marks, Jared Stanely and Yamaico Navarro each had an RBI single over the three innings.

Drive left-handed starter Felix Doubront (6-3) recorded the loss allowing five runs on six hits over four innings of work.

Greenville took the early 1-0 lead on a two-out RBI single from Stanley in the top of the first inning.

The GreenJackets look for the short two-game sweep on Tuesday night. Augusta had not named their starter for Tuesday night's game yet, however Greenville will send right-hander Eammon Portice (3-4, 3.97) to the mound. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.

Game Notes:

Augusta is 16-14 at home this season.

Augusta improved to 16-4 against left-handed starters.

Augusta collected 10 hits in a game for the 20th time this season.

Along with Maday and Otero being named to the SAL Southern Division All-Star team, left-handed starter Madison Bumgarner was also named allong with manager Andy Skeels.
