Indiana Mad Ants News Release
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Fort Wayne secured a series sweep of Windy City on Tuesday night with a 131-127 win in double overtime.
The Mad Ants jumped out quickly with a barrage of three pointers, taking a 28-10 lead. Windy City fought back late in the first on back to back big drives from Devon Dotson and Tyler Cook to get within 15 points. Then it was Pedro Bradshaw scoring four straight points for Fort Wayne to keep their lead intact, followed by a Gabe York dunk in traffic off the feed from Andrew Rowsey. The Mad Ants led 41-22 after the first quarter, hitting 7-of-11 three pointers while Windy City was 0-of-5 from deep. Those 41 points were a first quarter best for the Mad Ants this season.
While the Mad Ants did extend their lead to a game high 22 points during the second quarter, Windy City found more success including eight points each from Scottie Lindsay and Dotson in the frame. The Mad Ants added four more threes in the quarter, but their lead was just 10 at halftime, 69-59.
The teams stayed pretty even in the third until Fort Wayne started to heat up including a big energy three pointer from Bradshaw. With 2:12 left in the quarter, Bryce Alford converted a three pointer and-one that narrowed Fort Wayne's lead to 92-79. Before that basket, Fort Wayne had scored 10 straight points. Windy City got the last laugh in the third on a Henri Drell three pointer with just 0.7 seconds left. After three quarters, Fort Wayne retained their lead though, 96-89.
With 9:55 left in the game, a Daniel Oturu and-one pulled the Bulls all the way back within two points at 98-96. The two teams continued to trade shots including a Justin Anderson defensive splitting dunk, until Kerwin Roach evened the score at 102 with 7:49 left. With 7:05 left, Windy City took their first lead since the opening quarter on a Marko Simonovic free throw; just the second lead change of the game. A Justin Anderson dunk with 3:37 to play cut Windy City's lead to 109-106 after they had extended the lead to seven points.
Anderson evened the game at 109 with 3:07 to play on an and-one. Fort Wayne would reclaim the lead, 111-109, with 1:59 to play on a pair of made Gabe York free throws but Simonovic would take it right back with an and-one the next time down the floor. With the game tied, Anderson drove the lane for Fort Wayne with 1:06 to play to slam it home and draw the foul; he would hit the free throw as Fort Wayne led 116-113. Alford would tie the game up in the closing minute with a three pointer. With 12.2 seconds left Dotson found a clear lane to the rim to give Windy City the lead back once again at 118-116. With 5.7 seconds left, Anderson hit two free throws to even things up for the sixth time in the game.
Roach struck first for Windy City 45 seconds into overtime and Tyler Cook's hook shot with 35.6 seconds extended their lead to four. After a scramble under 30 seconds to go, Anderson drilled a three pointer to get within one. Fort Wayne forced an eight second violation with 15.9 seconds left in overtime and Anderson then drew a foul with 1.7 seconds left to head to the free throw line where he hit one of two and sent the game to a second overtime.
Double overtime was all Fort Wayne as York and Anderson combined for the first 5 points of the session, leading to a 127-122 lead with 22.3 seconds to play. Windy City kept pushing, but ran out of time as Bradshaw iced it at the free throw line and Fort Wayne prevailed 131-127.
Anderson led Fort Wayne with 46 points, tied for the third best single scoring game in Mad Ants history. York added 30 and and Nate Hinton scored 25. Windy City put six players in double figures, led by 28 out of Devon Dotson.
