CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Charge (3-17) of the NBA G League, presented by Cleveland Clinic, fell to the East-leading Motor City Cruise (16-6), 126-120, at the Wolstein Center on Tuesday night.
Trailing by as many as 17 in the fourth, Cleveland's Malik Newman erupted for 20 points in the quarter on 7-of-10 shooting to help the Charge get within 4 at 122-118 and 24.4 seconds to go. Cleveland committed fouls on the ensuing two possessions and Motor City hit all of their free throws down the stretch to hold on for the win, their third against the Charge this season.
Newman finished with a game-high 34 points and six assists in 37 minutes. Dylan Windler posted his third double-double in the last four games on assignment from the Cavaliers, finishing with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting with 14 rebounds in 38 minutes. Tacko Fall added a double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in 27 minutes. Cameron Young & Wes Iwundu each added 13 points for Cleveland.
Saben Lee led the Cruise with 31 points and two steals in 35 minutes. Luka Garza scored 24 points, grabbed 12 boards and three steals in 31 minutes. Jamorko Pickett scored 16 and grabbed 10 rebounds in 30 minutes. Derrick Walton Jr. had an all-around effort of 16 points, seven boards and nine assists in 38 minutes. Cassius Stanley rounded out all Motor City starters scoring double digits by netting 15 points.
