Lynx Welcome National League Baseball Back To The Nation's Capital

April 27, 2007 - International League (IL1)
Ottawa Lynx News Release

OTTAWA - Almost five years later, Lynx Stadium will see that most traditional of baseball plays: pitchers batting.

In Minor League Baseball, the designated hitter is used unless both clubs are National League affiliates. This homestand features eight games against two NL affiliates: the Indianapolis Indians and the Louisville Bats, Triple-A affiliates of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds, respectively.

The last Lynx pitcher to step up to the plate was RHP Tim Drew August 23rd, 2002 here in Ottawa against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons. He struck out in the bottom of the 5th inning and the Lynx have gone the next 602 regular season games (and five playoff games) with a designated hitter in the lineup. The last hit by a Lynx pitcher was in that same game, as Drew led off the 3rd inning with a single.

Tonight's starting pitcher is RHP Rick Bauer. Bauer, 30, spent parts of the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons with the Lynx. He has never gone to bat in his 10-year professional career.

Sunday is Health and Wellness Day at Lynx Stadium, featuring free massages courtesy of the International Academy of Massage. Next Friday (May 4th) is Super Hero Night. Young Lynx fans are encouraged to dress as their favourite super hero for the costume contest, with great prizes from Rainbow Cinemas.

This is the first season the Lynx are the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies. The Lynx Box Office is Open Monday to Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturdays 10 am to 4 pm. Ticket information can be found at www.ottawalynx.com or by calling 613 747-LYNX (5969).
