Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Norfolk, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Norfolk Tides 4-1 in 11 innings Friday at Harbor Park. The Braves erupted for three runs in the 11th to pick up their third straight win.
The Braves jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Yunel Escobar. The Tides tied the game in the fifth on a run scoring single by Terry Tiffee. Both clubs threatened late but the game remained tied into the 11th inning when the Braves moved back in front on a throwing error that allowed Wes Timmons to score. Richmond tacked on two more runs on an Escobar sacrifice fly and an RBI single by Bill McCarthy.
Anthony Lerew allowed just one run in seven innings, the longest outing by a Braves starter this season. Joe Winkelsas tossed four innings of shutout relief to earn the win. Francis Beltran took the loss. Escobar had two hits for the Braves. Former R-Brave Adam Stern had three hits for the Tides.
The two clubs move to The Diamond Saturday at 7 PM for the first of an eight game homestand. Macay McBride will pitch for the Braves against Garrett Olsen.
