"I am fortunate to be in a position to help raise funds and awareness for the families of the victims of this tragedy," said Barker. "Our Virginia Tech family has grown much larger, in recent weeks, through the help and support of people all over the country. I thank Chiefs fans, and baseball fans everywhere, for lending a hand and a heart in this effort."
Virginia Tech has established the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to remember and honor the victims of the tragic events on April 16, 2007. The fund will be used to cover expenses including but not limited to: grief counseling, memorials, communication expenses, comfort expenses and incidental needs.
