Chiefs to help Hokies' families

SYRACUSE (NY) - The Syracuse Chiefs players and coaches will wear Virginia Tech hats for their game on Saturday, April 28 versus the Louisville Bats at Alliance Bank Stadium.

The hats will be autographed and an auction will begin immediately and run through Sunday, May 6. Bids on the autographed hats can be made at the Whistle Stop Souvenir Store, at Alliance Bank Stadium, or by calling the Chiefs office at (315) 474-7833. The proceeds of the auction will be donated to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to honor the victims of the April 16th shootings in Blacksburg, VA.

In addition, Chiefs first baseman Kevin Barker, who is an alumnus of Virginia Tech, will wear a Hokies uniform jersey that will also be auctioned off. The jersey will display number 32, honoring the thirty-two victims of the shootings. "I am fortunate to be in a position to help raise funds and awareness for the families of the victims of this tragedy," said Barker. "Our Virginia Tech family has grown much larger, in recent weeks, through the help and support of people all over the country. I thank Chiefs fans, and baseball fans everywhere, for lending a hand and a heart in this effort."

Virginia Tech has established the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to remember and honor the victims of the tragic events on April 16, 2007. The fund will be used to cover expenses including but not limited to: grief counseling, memorials, communication expenses, comfort expenses and incidental needs.
