Week In Review

Tuesday, February 21 - Augusta Lynx 5 @ Pensacola Ice Pilots 4

Thursday, February 23 - Augusta Lynx 4 @ Pensacola Ice Pilots 1

Augusta continued their domination of the Ice Pilots in the season series this week, skating out with a pair of wins in two road games Tuesday and Thursday. Augusta began the week by rallying from a two-goal deficit yet again to tie the game on goals from Dan Sullivan and Ryan Lang. Sam Ftorek and Brian Passmore tacked on markers to give Augusta a 4-3 lead before Shaun Landolt tied the game midway through the third period. With time winding down, Lynx defenseman Jeff Mason stepped up to play hero, beating David Cann over the shoulder after wheeling the Pensacola cage with 2:34 remaining for the game winner.

Thursday, the Lynx got to business quickly, putting the Ice Pilots in a 3-1 hole after two periods on goals by Dan Sullivan, Chris Leinweber, and Nicolas Corbeil. Sam Ftorek cemented the win with the lone goal of the third period as Augusta cruised to their fifth straight win. Jason Wolfe stopped 39 of 40 shots for his fifth straight win.

Saturday, February 25 - Augusta Lynx 3 @ South Carolina Stingrays 6

In a season series that featured ten meetings between two teams neck-and-neck for the fifth place playoff spot, it almost seemed fitting it should end 5-5-0, with the home team winning three times in their own building. Unfortunately for Augusta, they were on the road and were handed a 6-3 loss.

The Lynx scored first as Martin Lapointe one-timed a cross-ice pass from Nicolas Corbeil to open the scoring, but Charlotte came back to score five of the next six goals and take a 5-2 lead during the third period. Despite a late goal from Anthony Battaglia, Marty Clapton's late empty net marker sealed Augusta's fate in the loss.

What's Next

Saturday, March 4 @ Columbia Inferno - 7:30 pm

Columbia and Augusta will continue the season series with the Lynx only game of the weekend Saturday night. The Lynx lead the season series 4-2-0, having only played twice in Columbia where they are 1-1-0. Inferno center Brandon Nolan leads all scorers with eight points (2-6-8) in the season series, while Augusta's Dan Sullivan has four goals against the Inferno this season for the lead among active players. The Lynx have beaten Columbia with four different goaltenders this year: Seamus Kotyk, Mike Wall, Jason Wolfe, and Trevor Cunning.
