Augusta, GA - Dave McKee made 34 saves while the Augusta Lynx poured 50 shots on net in a 5-2 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots on Thursday night at the James Brown Arena.
After allowing six goals in the opening frame on Tuesday night, the Lynx came out determined to fire things up early. Jason Kostadine extended his scoring streak to five straight games to open the game, notching his fourth goal of the year at 3:08 from Dirk Southern and Nick Kuiper.
Pensacola responded at 3:32 to tie the game when Greg Watson fired home a rebound off an Adam Taylor shot in the low slot.
From there, the Lynx came back with a Jamie Johnson marker at 5:29, followed by Brett Skinner's unassisted shorthanded goal for a 3-1 advantage at the period break. Skinner picked off a pass inside the Ice Pilots blue line and beat starter Mike Ayers over the right shoulder for the goal, his first in a Lynx uniform.
Michael Mole would replace Ayers in net to start the second period, but it made no difference to the Lynx. J.B. Bittner scored his seventh of the season at 6:47 for a 4-1 advantage from Ryan Lang and Ken Scuderi.
Louis Goulet rounded out the scoring with his eighth of the year on the power play at 8:18 in the third period, picking the top corner over the shoulder of Mole off a Shane Hynes feed.
Ayers took the loss with 17 saves in 20 minutes of work for Pensacola.
Augusta will get back to action Friday night against the Columbia Inferno at 7:35 pm, with 1,000 free cubic zirconium stones handed out to the first 1,000 women through the door 18 and over. One of those stones is laser engraved with the word "winner", and that stone will be good for a free one karat diamond courtesy of Cudos!
