THE HILLCATS: Last night the Hillcats fell in the final game of a four-game series with the Red Sox in Salem...The Cats dropped the last three games in the set and now have lost five of their last six to drop four games under .500 and four games out of first place in the Northern Division...Lynchburg is now 2-5 on their current stretch of 13 in a row on the road...Tonight is the opening contest of the three-game series at Potomac and game eight of the longest set of consecutive road games in 2010...

VS. POTOMAC: Tonight marks the first game of the season against the Nationals...Lynchburg is 154-145 against Potomac all-time and are 71-74 in Woodbridge...Last season the Cats won the season series with the P-Nats 11-9 and were 5-5 at the Pfitz...

FINALLY A FRESH FACE: The Hillcats are playing Potomac this evening in the first game of a three-game series...This is the first team Lynchburg has played that other than Frederick and Salem...The Cats played the same two teams over the course of the first 14 games of the season...

A BUMP ON THE ROAD: The Hillcats scored a combined six runs on 12 hits in the last three games of the series at Salem...Lynchburg's offense scored a season-high nine runs and smacked a season-best 17 hits in their win Monday night...In the first four games of this extended stretch on the road the Cats batted .348 (54-for-155), averaging six runs per game (24 runs in four games) with 18 extra-base hits...In Lynchburg's first seven games of the season at City Stadium they were were averaging just 2.4 run per game (17 runs in seven games) with 13 extra-base hits...

UNBLEMISHED: Last night the Hillcats did not commit an error and made a couple of outstanding defensive plays at Salem...Coming into last night the Hillcats had committed an error in ten straight games...This season the Cats have 21 errors in 14 games played, tied for the most errors by a team in the Carolina League...On Wednesday night the Cats had six errors in the doubleheader, two in game one and four in game two (their most in a game this season)...Those six errors led to five unearned runs, including one in each of the first three innings in game two...Lynchburg's .959 fielding percentage is last in the CL...

TRYING TO SPELL RELIEF: LHP Jeremy Horst gave up three runs in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie...In the last three games of the series at Salem the Hillcats bullpen allowed a combined eight runs in six innings of action (12.00 ERA)...The bullpen now has an earned run average of 6.56 entering tonight...The Cats bullpen has allowed at least one run in nine straight games...The starters meanwhile have a 3.07 ERA after 14 games this season...Last night LHP Travis Webb pitched a season-long six innings and allowed two runs to earn his first quality start of the season...Lynchburg has gotten three quality starts this season from their hurlers, but they have only won one of those games...

IN POSITION TO SCORE: The Hillcats .256 team batting average is fourth amongst eight teams in the Carolina League, but their .198 average with men in scoring position is the worst in the circuit...On the flip side the Hillcats pitching staff has an opposing batting average of .302 with RISP, sixth worst in the CL...

NEARLY NO-NO'D: In game one of the doubleheader on Wednesday night the Hillcats only managed one hit off of the Red Sox...The only hit came from the first batter of the game...OF Josh Fellhauer hit a ground ball to the second baseman Oscar Tejeda and while he went for the ball shortstop Ryan Dent ran into him going for the ball as well...It was scored a hit and that was the only hit that Lynchburg had in the seven-inning contest...

DON'T TEST ME: OF Josh Fellhauer threw out a Salem runner last night at home plate in the fifth inning to keep the game tied at two in the fifth inning...It was his fifth outfield assist of the season, which leads the Carolina League...His assist last night came from center field, he has also hosed a runner from left field and right...Last season with Dayton Fellhauer had four outfield assists in 53 games played...

TONIGHT'S OPPOSING PITCHER: LHP Evan Bronson was selected by the Nationals in the 29th round of last year's draft out of Trinity College (TX)...He made his professional debut last season with Vermont and went 3-0 with a 0.55 ERA in 20 games out of the bullpen for the Lake Monsters...This season with the P-Nats he has gone 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in four games (one start)...Tonight is his first appearance against Lynchburg...
