Lynchburg Hillcats News Release
Lynchburg won their third straight series opener on the road with an 8-2 victory at Potomac. Neftali Soto went 2-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI in the win.
The Hillcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a three-run top of the second inning. Lynchburg smacked three doubles in the inning, including RBI two-baggers by Alex Buchholz and Josh Fellhauer.
Potomac got on the board in the bottom of that inning with a two-run homer from Tim Pahuta to close the gap to a run. Pahuta entered the night tied for the Carolina League in home runs and this long ball was his fifth of the season.
In the fourth inning the Cats would put a four-spot up on the board to push their lead to five at 7-2. Dave Sappelt singled in a run in the inning and Neftali Soto doubled in a pair of runs. Soto had two of the Hillcats five doubles on the night.
Starter Mark Serrano helped that lead hold up with his first quality start of the season. He went six innings, allowed two runs on two hits and struck out five in his second start of the season since coming off the disabled list.
Justin Reed tacked on a run to the Hillcats advantage with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning. It was Reed's first homer of the season and he had his first mulit-hit game of the season after entering the game 1-for-27 on the season.
The win went to Serrano (1-0) for Lynchburg (6-9) and the loss went to starter Evan Bronson (1-1) for Potomac (5-10). Game two of the three-game series is on Saturday night at 6:10 p.m. at Pfitzner Stadium. Right-hander Lance Janke (0-2, 3.60) will get the start for the Hillcats opposite righty Marcos Frias (0-0, 4.60) will get the nod for the Nationals. You can tune-in to all the live action beginning at 6:40 p.m. on 105.5 KD Country and on the web at lynchburg-hillcats.com.
