Lydon Continues Dominance, Stingers Win Fourth Straight
June 16, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Willmar Stingers News Release
Thunder Bay, Ont. - Will Lydon just continues to dominate.
The Stingers right-hander already had three wins in his first three starts of the season, and Tuesday he made it four wins in four tries, as he threw eight shutout innings in Willmar's 7-0 win over Thunder Bay at Port Arthur Stadium.
Lydon had all the offense he would need before he even took to the hill. Dan Motl led off the first inning with a single, and two batters later Storm Wilson drilled a two-run homer to right field to put the Stingers up for good.
From there, Lydon took over. He retired the first 11 batters he faced and was perfect until the fourth inning. In that fourth inning Lydon gave up a two-out bunt single, but got a ground out to end any chance of a Border Cats scoring opportunity.
Then in the fifth, the Stingers offense made Lydon a little more comfortable. Willmar sent 10 batters to the plate in the inning and had five total hits that brought in four runs to balloon the lead to seven. Ky Parrott hit a two-run homer in the inning and Wilson had a two-run triple just a batter before for all the offense in the frame.
Lydon faced the biggest threat in the bottom of the same frame. But a two-out double followed by a walk resulted in nothing for the Border Cats, who couldn't solve Lydon all night.
Lydon went on to retire the final eight batters he faced, and Jason Ortiz finished the ninth for the Stingers second shutout win this season.
