Green Bay, Wis.- Garrett Harrison tossed a gem in the first game, and four relievers limited the Woodchucks to just three hits in the second contest, as the Bullfrogs advanced to 10-8 with two wins.
A red-hot Bullfrogs team blanked the Wisconsin Woodchucks in both games by a combined score of 8-0.
In game one, Garrett Harrison (St. Cloud State) went the full seven innings and struck out 11 batters, a Northwoods League high in 2015. It was his third start of seven innings or more. He also limited the Woodchucks to five hits and recorded his first win of the campaign.
The offense rapped 10 hits and managed three runs, enough offensive support for the first Green Bay complete game of the season. Logan Taylor (Louisville) scored on a fielder's choice ground out in the third inning for the first run. The second came after Paul Jacobson (South Dakota State) was plated in the fifth on a Franco Guardascione (Jacksonville) groundout.
After another run in the sixth, Green Bay closed the door leaving L.J. Hatch (New Mexico State) on second in the seventh inning. With the win, the Bullfrogs advanced over .500 for the first time this campaign.
The loss went to Woodchucks' starter, Simon Mathews (Georgetown), who surrendered three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and three strikeouts.
A second game of the Monday night bill was more of the same. This time it was a combined effort of Sam Brunner (3IP/Dayton), Tommy Strunc (1IP/Creighton), Connor Donovan (1IP/Lehigh), and Jake Stolley (2IP/Northwestern) that held the Wausau team to just three hits, and again no runs.
The offense had another double-digit hitting performance as Taylor scored two times in the game, and three runs of insurance came through in the sixth to reel in the 5-0 win.
Sam Brunner, who faced the minimum in three innings, with three strikeouts, and received the victory. The loss went to Max Bierdrzycki (Illinois-Springfield) who tossed three innings, five hits, on two runs.
Skip Handelsman's Bullfrogs are now a season-high two games over .500. They have won four straight. And they play against the Wisconsin Woodchucks tomorrow at 7:05PM. After the conclusion of the series, they welcome the Duluth Huskies for two games on Wednesday and Thursday night.
