Madison Mallards News Release
Madison, Wis. - In the finale of a two-game series at C.O. Brown Stadium, the Madison Mallards (10-11) were defeated by the Battle Creek Bombers (9-12) by a final score of 8-0 on Tuesday. The Mallards were limited to four base hits in the losing effort, while the Bombers ignited for eight runs on 11 hits against Mallards pitching in route to the win.
Andrew Beckwith (Coastal Carolina) turned in an uneven performance in his first starting appearance of the season, allowing five earned runs on eight hits, one walk and three strikeouts across 3.2 innings of work. Grant Spranger (Southeastern CC), Hever Bueno (Arizona State) and Nick Gruener (Harvard) combined to allow three earned runs, three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings out of Madison's bullpen.
Anthony Gonsolin (St. Mary's College) did his best to catalyze Madison's offense in the loss, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Gonsolin's two base hits were Madison's only of the game entering the ninth inning, a frame that saw the Mallards load the bases with two outs. J.J. Gould's (Jacksonville) ground-out to the shortstop ended any chance for a comeback, however, completing Madison's series-ending loss to the Bombers.
With the series split behind them, the Mallards will turn their attention toward the opener of their two-game away series with the Kalamazoo Growlers, scheduled for 6:05 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Play-by-play action for tomorrow's contest will be available on 100.5 FM ESPN Madison.
The Mallards will return home on Friday, June 19 against the Kenosha Kingfish. Next Friday will be Valpak Great Outdoors Night at the Duck Pond, featuring an Outdoorsman Maynard Bobblehead Giveaway presented by WKOW TV.
