Bullfrogs Fall Despite Late Rally
June 16, 2015 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Green Bay Rockers News Release
Green Bay, Wis.-The Green Bay Bullfrogs had their four-game winning streak snapped in a 2-1 loss to the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Tuesday night at Joannes Stadium.
The Bullfrogs had runners on first and second with nobody out in the ninth but could not score. Ryan Donovan led off the inning with a walk, followed by a line-drive single over the head of shortstop Yusuke Akitoshi by Connor Ross.
Jack Strunc's sacrifice bunt put runners at second and third with one out, but Robert Zeigler struck out the next two batters to pick up the save for the Woodchucks.
Luke Crabb picked up the loss for the Bullfrogs in five innings of work. He allowed an earned run on four hits and a walk with five strikeouts.
Following three scoreless innings to begin the game, Wisconsin put an unearned run on the board in the top of the fourth. Akitoshi reached on an error and scored two batters later on a RBI groundout by Ryan Day.
The Woodchucks added another run in the following inning with a RBI single for Connor Heady to score Jared Oliva.
Green Bay cut the deficit to one with one out in the bottom of the fifth. Desi Ammons drove the ball to deep centerfield for a double and scored a batter later when Matthew De La Rosa doubled down the rightfield line.
Green Bay threatened to score a few other times during the game, but the Bullfrogs were caught in a pair of rundowns between third base and home in the fourth and fifth inning as the runners broke for the plate on contact.
Jared Skolnicki earned the win and improved his record to 3-1 on the year. He threw six innings, allowed one run on five hits and a walk and struck out two batters.
The Bullfrogs will look to begin another winning streak tomorrow night as they host the Duluth Huskies for Turn Back the Clock Night at Joannes Stadium.
Bullfrogs' players will be wearing Green Bay Blue Ribbon uniforms to celebrate the history of Joannes Stadium, where the Blue Ribbons played in the Wisconsin State League from 1970 until 1995. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on the jerseys during the game.
The game starts at 7:05 p.m., and gates open one hour prior to the first pitch.
Single game tickets are on sale now. Visit www.greenbaybullfrogs.com to purchase tickets. The Bullfrogs' business hours are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
