August 10, 2011 - Northwoods League (Northwoods)
Rochester Honkers News Release

(Rochester, MN) - The Rochester Honkers continued their second half slump, losing their eighth game in ten days, this time to the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers by a score of 8-1 on Wednesday night at Mayo Field. The Honkers fall to 14-20 in the second half and 23-43 overall.

The Honkers ran into strong pitching, failing to get a runner on base until the fifth inning when Davy Wright (So, TCU) hit his 19th double of the season to centerfield, breaking up the perfect game. Wright would go 2-for-4 and score the only run of the game for the Honkers. Reid Roper (Fr, Illinois) would double in the next at-bat, scoring Wright, for his 18th run of the season.

Cody Peterson (Fr, Madison College) would make his second start of the season, picking up his second loss as well. Peterson would only last 4.1 innings, allowing four runs on 11 hits. He would leave the game earlier than expected with an apparent arm injury. James Gilbertson (So, RCTC) would make his longest appearance in relief this season, pitching the final 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on seven hits. Gilbertson's previous inning high was 2.1 in his first appearance of the year.

The Lunkers would use two big innings to roll to the win, scoring seven runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with three homeruns and some other timely hitting.

The Honkers and Lunkers are back at it tomorrow night, Thursday August 11, with a 7:05 pm first pitch. The game will have Minnesota Twins Organist Sue Nelson as in-game entertainment and will be followed by the final Fireworks Extravaganza of the season at Mayo Field.
