Green Bay Rockers News Release

Green Bay, WI - August 9th, 2011 - The Green Bay Bullfrogs had a record setting night at Joannes Stadium on Tuesday night in their two-game DH sweep of the La Crosse Loggers. Tim Giel earned his franchise-record 7th victory this season in a 13-0 game one rout and Andy Hunter matched his team-high eleven strikeouts in the 5-1 game two victory. With the sweep of La Crosse, Green Bay now holds a two-game lead over La Crosse and Battle Creek for sole possession of first place with five games left.

Green Bay didn't waste any time getting on the board in game one. After Ty Filliben advanced on a single and Paul Hoenecke was walked, Phillip Ervin knocked a monster shot over the center field wall that scored three. Following consecutive walks to Jacob May and Andy Hunter, catcher Duncan McAlpine matched Ervin's three-run blast with one of his own over the right field wall. After just one inning the Bullfrogs led 6-0.

In the second, after a double by Hoenecke, Ervin hit his second homer of the night over the left field wall that made the score 8-0 after two. Green Bay added three more runs in the fourth without a hit. La Crosse reliever Jon Surber would retire the first two Green Bay batters with ease, but ran into trouble after that. Surber would yield four consecutive walks to load the bases and score Filliben. During Andy Hunter's at-bat, Hoenecke would come around to score on a wild pitch, and Ervin would score on a pass ball. In the fifth, Ryan Allgrove would single in McAlpine and Filliben would double home Steven Halcomb to give Green Bay the 13-0 lead.

'Frogs starter Tim Giel pitched five shutout innings for his seventh win of the year. With the win, Giel set a Green Bay franchise record for most wins in a season. The righty from Columbia is also just five innings away from pitching the most innings in a single season by a Bullfrog. Mark Garcia pitched two scoreless to complete the shutout victory.

The third largest crowd in Bullfrogs history came out to watch game two. 2,103 Frogvillians witnessed a dominant pitching performance from Andy Hunter. The senior from Gonzaga matched his strikeout total from his previous start as he racked up eleven over 5.2 innings pitched. Cimber pitched a scoreless 1.2 innings in relief.

After a 1-2-3 first inning, Hunter ran into his biggest trouble in the second. With one out, Corey LeVier would single to right and Bobby Juan would double to right to put runners on second and third with only one out. After a Tyler Smith strikeout, Hunter would walk Mike Reeves to load the bases with two outs. However, Hunter would get Trevor Brown to hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

In the second, the 'Frogs would capitalize on the Loggers missed opportunity. Ervin would lead off the inning with a single, steal, and wild pitch to reach third with no outs. McAlpine would strikeout and Allgrove would groundout to first to keep Ervin stranded at third with two outs. Eric Peterson would then drive in Ervin with a single to center for his first RBI in 13 games. Green Bay would add three more in the third on a sac-fly by Hoenecke and a two-out two-RBI single by McAlpine to give the 'Frogs a 4-1 cushion. Jonathan Walsh would add an insurance run in the fourth on a sac-fly that would score Peterson.

Hunter lost his shutout bid in the fourth. After Tyler Smith reached on a one out single, Trevor Brown would double to right to bring around Smith and end the Loggers' ten-inning scoreless streak.

Hunter would give up only one run in 5.2 innings yielding six hits while striking out eleven for the win. La Crosse starter Zach Wright gave up five in three innings on seven hits, while reliever Dan Child pitched three scoreless giving up no hits and striking out two.

Green Bay will travel to Battle Creek for a crucial three-game series and will return home to finish the season on August 13th and 14th.
