Lumberkings wallop Silver Hawks

South Bend - Going into Tuesday night's game against the Clinton Lumberkings, the South Bend Silver Hawks played in eight games of three runs or more. Of the eight games, the Silver Hawks lost seven. After Tuesday's blowout win by the Lumberkings, the losses have mounted to eight as the Hawks fell to Clinton 14-3.

The game was close until the seventh inning, with the Lumberkings entering the frame with a 2-1 lead. K.C. Herren lead off the inning with a single to left-center field. Truan Mehl reached on force out attempt, with a throwing error by Enmanuel Duran, allowing Herren to reach second. With Jose Vallejo at the plate Enmanuel Duran's wild pitch moved Herren to third and Mehl to second. Vallejo then singled to left scoring Herren for a 3-1 lead, with, Mehl advancing to third. Matt Smith's walk pushed Vallejo to second and Joe Kemp's triple to right, scored Mehl, Vallejo and Smith for a 6-1 lead. Johnny Whittleman's single to left scored Kemp to make it 7-1. John Mayberry's single to left-center moved Whittleman to third. After the Hawks changed pitchers bringing in Donald Julio, Freddie Thon singled to center plating Whittleman for an 8-1 lead. Truan Mehl's sacrifice fly to G. Thomson scored Mayberry for the final run of the seventh and a 9-1 advantage.

Jake Rasner (1-2) gets the win and Cody Evans (0-2) suffers the loss.

The Silver Hawks continue their four game set on Wednesday as they battle the Clinton Lumberkings at the Cove. Wednesday is South Bend Tribune 5-FOR-$5 night, with vouchers good for $1 reserved and $3 box seats. First pitch scheduled for 6:30 P.M and gates opening at 5:30 PM.
