COMSTOCK PARK - Dusty Ryan extended his hitting streak to eight games with a walk-off RBI triple down the right field line in the bottom of the twelfth inning as the Whitecaps edged Kane County, 3-2. West Michigan has won five games in a row, but the Western Division leading Cougars have dropped four straight.

Matt Joyce walked to lead off the twelfth inning against reliever Joe Piekarz. Joyce scored the winning run against Piekarz, who was the sixth Kane County pitcher of the night, but did not record an out.

Matt Rusch threw three innings of shutout relief to earn the win.

Will Rhymes drove in the first two Whitecaps runs of the game. The first came in the third. It was a sacrifice fly down the left field line caught in foul ground by the short stop that plated Jeramy Laster to tie the game, 1-1. Rhymes singled home Rafael Mendaz to give West Michigan a 2-1 lead in the sixth.

In the top of the ninth Orlando Perdomo came on with a chance to earn his eighth save in eight opportunities this season. However, Perdomo allowed a pair of hits including an RBI single by Jose Pineda, which tied the game, 2-2.

Starter Erik Averill went seven innings for the Whitecaps and was followed by Anthony Claggett, who pitched the eighth and is yet to allow a run this season. Perdomo worked his way out a of a one-out, bases loaded jam in the ninth and send the game to the bottom of the inning with a tie score.

The last time the Whitecaps won five games in a row was part of a six game winning streak June 28-July 3, 2005, which also included a four-game sweep of Clinton.
