Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - The Lansing Lugnuts squandered a three-run lead, but rallied in the final two frames in order to take a 7-4 win over the Great Lakes Loons before 7,273 fans at Oldsmobile Park. The victory earned a split of the four-game set for Lansing and pushed the Lugnuts lead in the Eastern Division to two games.

The Lugnuts had a 3-0 lead in the sixth inning when the Loons were able to score four times, thanks in large part to three Lansing errors. Pedro Baez singled to start the inning and moved all the way to third when Raul Barron committed two errors on the same play. John Tolisano's error then allowed Erik Kanaby to reach base and Baez to score, making it a 3-1 game. After a sacrifice fly cut the lead to 3-2, Alfredo Sivlerio singled into right-center field that brought home two more runs to put the Loons on top 4-3.

Lansing was able to come back in the seventh inning to regain the lead. With a man on second and two out, Moises Sierra reached on an error by Great Lakes's Justin Fuller to keep the inning alive. Manny Rodriguez then singled into right field, plating Tolisano from third to tie the game. Yohermyn Chavez's RBI double down the right field line would then put Lansing up 5-4.

Justin Jackson added two more runs to the Lugnuts lead in the eighth when he homered over the right field wall, pushing the score to 7-4.

Brad Mills (4-2) got the win as he threw seven innings and allowed four unearned runs on six hits. He also fanned eight batters in the start.

Cody Crowell got his sixth save as he threw a scoreless ninth.

Thomas Melgarejo (1-2) suffered the loss for Great Lakes after giving up four runs over three innings of work. Two of the four runs were unearned to the hurler.

Lansing (30-25) will now hit the road to play four games at Stanley Coveleski Regional Stadium against the South Bend Silver Hawks (24-30) beginning Sunday afternoon. Trystan Magnuson (0-6, 8.69) will pitch for the Lugnuts, while lefty Tom Layne (1-2, 2.78) will hurl for South Bend. First pitch is set for 1:30 p.m.
