Lansing Pounds Out 14 Hits in Win

Dayton, Ohio - After being baffled by the Dragons pitching staff on Tuesday, the Lansing Lugnuts came out swinging Wednesday night as they defeated the Dayton Dragons 10-4 in the rubber game of the three game set at Fifth Third Field.

It looked to be another pitchers duel until the fourth when the Lugnuts' Cory Patton hit a two-run triple down the right field line to make the score 2-0. He later scored on a David Hicks single to left that increased the lead to 3-0. After Hicks swiped second base, Yuber Rodriquez dropped a single into right field to push the score to 4-0.

The Lugnuts would add two more runs before the Dragons began to fight back in the seventh. Dayton's Paul Janish ripped a single to right field to plate Mike DeJesus for the Dragons' first run. The score moved to 6-3 when Cory Patton misplayed a ball in left field, allowing Mike Griffin and Janish to score.

Dayton (2-5)added one more run in the eighth before the Lugnuts regained control of the game by scratching across four runs in the ninth inning, sending all nine batters to the plate in the process.

Cory Patton finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI's and two runs scored, while David Hicks went 2-for-3 with two RBI's of his own.

Lansing's (5-2) starting pitcher Kristian Bell tossed five innings of scoreless baseball while striking out eight to pick up his second win of the year. Carlos Fisher took the loss for the Dragons.

The Lugnuts will return home on Thursday night to face the South Bend SilverHawks at Oldsmobile Park. It will be a Molson Thirsty Thursday, where beer and soda are just $2 a piece. Russ Savickas will start for Lansing while Ramon Sanchez takes the hill for South Bend. First pitch is set for 6:05.
