Peoria Chiefs News Release
PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs have announced that Hall of Fame pitcher Fergie Jenkins will appear at O'Brien Field on Thursday April 13th and Friday April 14th to throw out a first pitch and sign autographs.
Jenkins will throw a first pitch on both nights and then be available for autographs at a booth on the concourse. Autographs are $20 each with all the proceeds going to the Fergie Jenkins Foundation which supports various American and Canadian charities including the Red Cross, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Negro League Baseball Museum, Special Olympics and YMCA. More information on the foundation can be found at www.fergiejenkinsfoundation.org.
Catching the first pitch on Thursday at the home opener will be current Chiefs manager Jody Davis. Davis and Jenkins played together in 1982 and 1983 in Chicago. Davis was behind the plate when Jenkins fanned San Diego's Garry Templeton for this 3000th career strikeout. Both players will sign the baseball which will then be auctioned in a silent auction during the game with all proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Club of Peoria.
The Chiefs return home after tonight's game at Cedar Rapids. Heading into that contest, the Chiefs are 3-3. The home opener begins at 6:30 PM on Thursday against the Swing of the Quad Cities an affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. All fans will also receive a 2006 Peoria Chiefs magnet schedule. Jenkins will also throw out a first pitch and sign autographs at Friday's 6:30 PM Chiefs game against the Swing.
