LANSING, Mich. - The Dayton Dragons (23-15) outlasted the Lansing Lugnuts (19-20) in a back-and-forth extra-inning contest on Thursday night at Cooley Law School Stadium, coming away with a 5-4 win.

The Dragons plated a pair of runs in the top of the tenth inning and halted a Lugnuts rally in the bottom half of the frame.

Dayton catcher Joe Hudson drove in a pair of runs with a single off of Griffin Murphy (Loss, 2-2) that snuck by third baseman Mitch Nay and skipped into left field.

The Lugnuts led off the bottom of the tenth with back-to-back hits by D.J. Davis and Dickie Joe Thon off of closer Scott Brattvet (Save, 7), but were only able to plate Davis on an RBI groundout by L.B. Dantzler, his third run driven in on the night.

Lansing trailed 3-2 heading into the eighth inning, but Dantzler's drove a triple off of reliever Alejandro Chacin (Blown Save, 2), bringing Nay in from first base to knot the score.

Dayton called on reliever Joel Bender (Win, 1-0) to strand Dantzler at third and quiet the rally.

Lansing catcher Santiago Nessy went 3-for-4 to raise his batting average to .274. Davis reached base three times with a pair of hits and a walk and scored two runs.

Chase De Jong pitched 4.2 innings in a no-decision, giving up three hits and a pair of runs, both coming on Sebastian Elizalde's fifth home run on the season.

The Lugnuts and Dragons play the second of the four-game set on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium. Left-hander Shane Dawson (1-1, 6.00) will start on the mound for Lansing, opposed by Dayton righty Nick Travieso (4-1, 1.59).

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on a Freebie Friday: Kids Eat Free, with a free hot dogs, chips, and soda for all children 12 & under.
