Chiefs Fall 4-3 Thursday

PEORIA, IL- Mason Katz delivered a two-run home run but the Peoria Chiefs could not complete a four-run comeback against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Thursday night in a 4-3 loss, which snaps their winning streak at five. The Chiefs record is now 23-16.

Wisconsin got the scoring started in the second inning. A one-out double was followed by a hit by pitch and Paul Eshleman singled in the first run. Steven Halcomb grounded out to third for a 2-0 lead. Wisconsin tacked on an unearned run in the third on a sac fly.

The Timber Rattlers made it 4-0 in the sixth on a Michael Ratterree home run. Blake McKnight issued back-to-back walks to follow the homer and he gave way to Brandon Lee. Peoria cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the inning. Ronald Castillo led off with a single and with two outs, Katz hit a line drive home run to left to make it 4-2.

The Chiefs got another run in the eighth. Castillo led off with a single and Kenny Peoples-Walls walked. The next two batters were retired but Jake Stone singled to right for a 4-3 game, but they were unable to tie it.

McKnight (1-3) pitched the first 5 2/3 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on four hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Lee threw the next 3 1/3 shutout innings of relief on one hit and three strikeouts.
