Burlington Bees News Release
(Burlington-IA)- A four run inning propelled the Burlington Bees (17-21) past the Cedar Rapids Kernels (19-21) 6-2 at Community Field on Friday night to snap a season long seven game losing streak.
Trailing 1-0, the Bees got on the board in the second inning on an Erick Salcedo single that scored Stephen McGee tying the game at one.
The Bees added to their lead in the third when Stephen McGee singled into right field scoring Eric Aguilera.
After the Kernels tied the game at one in the fourth, the Bees' offense put four four runs on the board in the fifth. Stephen McGee, who went 3-for-4, doubled in Ranyelmy Mendoza. Erick Salcedo would then drive in McGee with a single to left field. The Bees made it a 6-2 ballgame when two runs crossed the plate on a Kernels throwing error.
Reliever Victor Alcantara (1-2) shut down the Kernels pitching five scoreless innings picking up his first win of the season. Cedar Rapids' starter Felix Jorge (2-4) was charged with the loss.
The Bees continue their series with Cedar Rapids tomorrow night at Community Field at 6:30 PM. Ryan Etsell takes the mound for the Bees and will face Cedar Rapids' Aaron Slegers. For more information and to purchase tickets, please log on to www.gobees.com or call the Bees office at (319)-754-5705.
