Cal Boudway's Story

"On January 7th of 2012, our son Cal was transferred by ambulance and admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Memorial Children's Hospital for croup. Upon arrival, Cal stopped breathing.

Memorial staff was prepared and moved quickly as we watched in terror while doctors and nurses revived our son. We later found out that Cal's heart stopped beating and both of his lungs collapsed. Our stay at Memorial Children's Hospital suddenly extended from a few days to an unknown length of time as complications and side effects took their toll on our little boy.

We did not leave for 20 days as Memorial's PICU staff cared for Cal. As our stay grew longer and the PICU became our home, we progressively felt as though they become a part of our family. We were overwhelmed at the amount of care we received from everyone involved. The doctors and nursing staff were extraordinary. Furthermore, the respiratory staff was just as impressive.

Cal was discharged on January 27th, his first birthday. That day the nurses threw him a party that we will never forget. The staff at Memorial Children's Hospital saved our son's life and there is no possible way to fully express our feeling of gratitude.

What a treasure, right here in our community. Keeping us close to our support system, close to our colleagues at Notre Dame and close to home, was a blessing in our darkest days." stated Jeannette Boudway, Cal's mother.

Please join Memorial Children's Hospital and your Silver Hawks in cheering on Cal as he completes his Home Run for Life at Four Winds Field on May, 12th.
