Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL- Coming home did not change things offensively for the Cougars as they were shut out for the third time this season and suffered their fourth straight loss. The River Bandits (19-20) put the pressure on with seven runs in the first four innings, and held the Cougars (26-14) to just five hits in a 7-0 finish at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

Duane Underwood allowed the River Bandits to get on the board first as Thomas Lindauer singled home Brett Booth, who led off the inning with a double. Quad Cities continued the offense in the third inning as they completed a five-run frame. With runners at first and second, Underwood hit Brian Holberton to load the bases. The next batter Ronnie Mitchell drew a two-out walk to force home the second River Bandit run. The Cougars biggest enemy was still Lindauer. On a 1-0 pitch the River Bandits' shortstop lifted a pitch just over the left field wall for a grand slam to put Quad Cities ahead 6-0. Gerardo Concepcion allowed one more run in the fourth, but stopped the bleeding his next three innings while striking out three.

The bats for the Cougars continued to stay quiet as they were shutout by Adrian Houser, Kevin Comer and Albert Minnis. The home team only managed five hits all day and never saw a runner past second base.

Houser (2-1) picked up his second win in as many starts with five innings of shutout baseball and striking out three.

Underwood's first decision of the year came in the loss category as he allowed six runs through three innings on two walks and one strikeout.

The series continues on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. first pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Jen-Ho Tseng (3-0, 2.81) will take the mound for the Cougars against the River Bandits' left-hander Chris Lee (1-1, 2.89). For tickets call 630-232-8811 or log on to kccougars.com.
