Lucky 13 Again: Hot Rods Romp, 13-2

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The Bowling Green Hot Rods broke out the bats again in a 13-2 win over the West Michigan Whitecaps this evening. CF Carl Chester set a new career high with four RBI, and C Ronaldo Hernandez hit his 13th home run of the season.

The Hot Rods got going right away in the first inning, as 2B Vidal Brujan scored on an RBI double from LF Moises Gomez. Hernandez then followed with a towering two run home run to left field, and it was 3-0 Bowling Green after the top half of the first.

The runs kept coming in the second, as 1B Jim Haley and Chester each scored, making it 5-0 Hot Rods.

After the Whitecaps scored a run in the bottom of the second, the Hot Rods broke the game open in the third. The inning was highlighted by Chester, who hit a two run double, and it was 8-1 Bowling Green.

The hit parade continued in the fourth, as Chester came up again, and just missed a home run, settling for an RBI triple off the top of the wall in left center field, and the Hot Rods led 11-1.

Bowling Green rounded out the scoring in the sixth, when 3B Trey Hair hit an RBI double, and Chester collected his final RBI of the night, and it was 13-1.

West Michigan got their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth, making it 13-2.

RHP Alex Valverde (5-3, 4.41) earned the win. He pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two runs, walking three. RHP Mikey York earned his first career save.

The Hot Rods will look for the series win tomorrow night when RHP Tommy Romero (6-3, 2.30) takes the hill. West Michigan will counter with RHP Brad Bass (4-5, 5.66). First pitch is set for 7:05pm Eastern time.
