Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the South Bend Cubs (affiliate of the Chicago Cubs) in the second game of a four-game series.

Last Game: Thursday: Dayton 6, South Bend 5. J.D. Williams delivered two hits including a tie-breaking RBI single in the fifth inning and then made an outstanding game-ending leaping catch in the bottom of the ninth. The Dragons trailed 4-1 after three innings but rallied to take the lead with two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth. Raul Wallace hit a home run in the sixth and also added a double. Jose Garcia had two doubles. The Dayton bullpen combined for six innings and allowed just one run. Ryan Nutof earned the win with two scoreless innings.

2018 Team Notes

The Dragons have won four straight games. They have been the streakiest team in professional baseball in 2018. They started the year with a three-game losing streak, won the next nine games, lost the next eight, won nine of 10, lost the next eight, won seven of eight, lost the next three, won four of six, lost the next seven, won two, lost the next eight, and have won the last four.

The Dragons swept the three-game set with Great Lakes (Monday-Wednesday) by a combined score of 19-5. This was their first series sweep since they swept Cedar Rapids in a three-game set at Dayton May 7-9.

Dragons pitchers have allowed three runs or less in five of the eight games played in the second half. Their second half team ERA is 3.45 compared to 5.31 in the first half.

The Dragons have scored at least four runs in five straight games for the first time since April 29-May 6, when they scored at least four runs in seven straight games. Wednesday's 11-run outburst marked the first time the Dragons scored more than four runs in a game since June 6 (they had scored four or less in 17 straight games).

The Dragons have committed just seven errors in their last 19 games.

Roster Notes: On Thursday, infielder John Sansone was promoted from Dayton to Daytona. Left-handed pitcher Jesse Adams joined the Dragons from Daytona.

2018 Individual Notes

Hunter Greene over his last seven starts: 36.1 IP, 28 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 9 BB, 41 SO, 2.23 ERA. Greene has made 14 starts. His ERA in his first seven starts was 10.06.

Andy Sugilio is batting .400 (12 for 30) in the second half. Over his last six games, he is 11 for 22, .500.

Leandro Santana is batting .311 (14 for 45) over his last 12 games to raise his season's average from .190 to .219.

Malik Collymore has hits in all six games he has played in with the Dragons, batting .304.

Cory Thompson has posted a 1.67 ERA in 27 relief appearances. He has not allowed a run over his last six outings covering 10 innings (he also struck out the only batter he faced in the MWL All-Star Game on June 19 at Lansing).

John Ghyzel is first in the MWL lead in saves with 14. Ghyzel was the winning pitcher in the MWL All-Star Game on June 19.
