Beloit Sky Carp News Release
Beloit, WI - For the second consecutive evening, the Beloit Snappers (36-42) lost to the Peoria Chiefs (46-33) by a score of 4-1 at Pohlman Field in front of 1,057 fans.
The second inning doomed Beloit and starter Jared Poché. Four consecutive hits, including three straight RBI doubles, and a sac fly from Irving Lopez gave the Chiefs their four runs and a 4-0 lead.
The lone run for the Snappers came on a solo home run from Jesus Lopez. It was his team-leading ninth homer and he tied the team lead in RBI with 33.
It was another night of missed opportunities on offense. The Snappers left 10 men on base and hit just 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position. Nick Allen hit into double-play in the second inning with one out and the Snappers never got as good an opportunity again.
Poché went six innings surrendering six hits, four runs and zero walks with two strikeouts while picking up the loss. The Snappers bullpen pitched three scoreless innings, two from Jesus Zambrano and one from Wandisson Charles.
Chiefs starter Paul Balestrieri picked up his fourth win of the season, going seven innings and getting his first win against Beloit this season in three tries. Patrick Dayton picked up his first save of the season in two innings of relief.
It took Logan Farrar until his last at bat in the eighth inning to extend his 22-game on base streak to 23 games with a one out double. His streak began on 5/31 and included a 15-game hitting streak that ended on 6/21.
Snappers pitching surrendered six doubles to Chiefs hitters, a new season high. Beloit is now 13-32 on the season when the opponent scores first. They also have at least one extra-base hit in all nine games out of the break.
The Snappers will pick up game three of the series on Saturday evening with another 7:00 p.m. first pitch. The Snappers starter for Friday will be right-hander Wyatt Marks (3-6, 3.97). He will be opposed by Chiefs right-hander Alvaro Seijas (2-4, 5.13).
Saturday's game is Ladies Night at the ballpark. All women get half off tickets for any type of seat and 10 percent off a purchase at the merchandise store in Pohlman Field. This giveaway is brought to you by your friends at WSJY.
