First Inning Dooms Cougars

Geneva, Illinois - The Kane County Cougars (39-39, 4-5) allowed eight first inning runs in a 10-3 loss to the Quad Cities River Bandits (43-36, 3-6) on Friday night at Northwestern Medicine Field.

Quad Cities recorded eight runs on nine hits and sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning. The first run scored when Yoel Yanqui let a ball slip underneath his glove at first base for an error. The next hitter, Miguelangel Sierra, launched a two-run homer to make it 3-0. Chandler Taylor collected an RBI single, so did Scott Schrieber and Marty Costes. Seth Beer recorded a two-run double to stretch the rally to 8-0 Bandits.

Quad Cities coaxed back-to-back walks to begin the seventh. The lead off man, Alfredo Angarita, came around to score on a passed ball. The Cougars found the board in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run single by Jazz Chisholm. The River Bandits neutralized that run on Seth Beer's RBI ground out in the ninth.

Cougar starting pitcher Jhoan Duran (4-3) did not record an out, giving up eight runs (five earned) on eight hits. Cole Bartlett came out of relief in the first and followed with five shutout frames, scattering two hits and striking out a season-high six batters. Rafael Pujols allowed an unearned run over three relief innings. Juan Torres surrendered one tally in an inning of work.

Enoli Paredes (2-3) took the home the win for the River Bandits, tossing 5.2 innings of shutout ball, allowing four hits and striking out seven batters. Willy Collado allowed three runs in 1.1 innings. Tanner Duncan hurled two perfect innings out of the pen.
