Lowell Able to Grab Points Despite Winless Week
December 17, 2007 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
Rewind:
Wednesday, BRUINS 6 vs. Devils 5 (SO)
Barry Tallackson's two goals in the third period tied the game twice to send the game into overtime, but Providence prevailed in the shootout, 6-5. Down 3-1 in the second, Ryan Murphy and Patrick Davis scored three and a half minutes apart to knot the score for the first time in the contest. Tallackson then helped Lowell come back from two one-goal deficits in the third frame. After a scoreless overtime, the first three Bruins converted in the shootout to seal the win. Jordan Parise made 38 saves through regulation and overtime.
Friday, River Rats 3 vs. DEVILS 2 (OT)
The Devils took a 2-0 lead into the third period against the River Rats, but got into some penalty trouble and could not hold on in a 3-2 overtime loss. Barry Tallackson notched Lowell's fastest goal of the season when he scored just 26 seconds into the game. Noah Clarke made it a 2-0 Devils lead with his 12th goal of the season at 14:47 of the second. Albany's Bobby Hughes would tie it up with two goals on the man-advantage in the third, before Andrew Ladd tipped in the power play game-winner at 2:45 of the extra session.
Saturday, Bruins 6 vs. DEVILS 1
Six different skaters scored for the Bruins, as they defeated the Devils by a score of 6-1. Providence outshot Lowell 14-2 in the first period and was able to stake a 2-0 lead on goals by Sean Curry and Matt Lashoff. Down 4-0, the Devils picked up their only goal of the game when Grant Marshall scored on the power play at 11:39 of the second stanza. Jordan Parise stopped 14-of-19 over two periods in relief of starter Frank Doyle.
In the standings
Though the Devils were able to gather some important points this week, they could not prevent themselves from falling into last place in the Atlantic Division. Lowell trails the Worcester Sharks by four points, who in turn are just one point behind the Manchester Monarchs. The Providence Bruins maintain their perch atop of the division at 48 points and have widened the lead to eight over the second place Hartford Wolf Pack. Three points separate the Springfield Falcons from both the Wolf Pack ahead in the standings and Portland Pirates behind.
Coming Up
The Lowell Devils will take the ice for the last two games of a stretch that will see them play the Providence Bruins four times over a week and a half. The home-and-home series begins Friday, December 21 at the Dunkin' Donuts Center and returns to Tsongas Arena on Saturday, December 22. The Devils trail in the season's series 0-3-0-1 and have been outscored 21-8. The Bruins own the best offense in the AHL, scoring 3.86 goals a game. Pascal Pelletier is second in the league with 16 goals and third with 33 points (16g, 17a).
The Devils begin the week of play with a home game versus the Worcester Sharks. It is the second game of the ten-game season series and the first visit to Tsongas Arena for Worcester. The Sharks took game one back on October 20 by a score of 2-1. Worcester has scored the first goal in a game just eight times this season, fewest in the AHL. They are, however, 6-1-1-0 in those contests. Lowell trails in the all-time series 2-3-1-0.
