LAST WEEK: The B-Sens (13-11-3-1, 30 pts.) were 1-2 this past week, including a 4-3 victory of the Syracuse Crunch on Friday night at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
TUESDAY, DECEMBER 11th @ SPRINGFIELD (3-5 L): The B-Sens started the week on the road in Springfield. The B-Sens jumped out to an early 2-0 lead as Cody Bass and Greg Mauldin each scored. The Falcons then rattled off five consecutive goals, two by Rob Schremp, as they pulled away. Josh Hennessy added a late goal for the Sens to make it a 5-3 final.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 14th vs. SYRACUSE (4-3 W): The B-Sens overcame a third-period deficit to defeat the Crunch for the second time this year. Netminder Brian Elliott stopped a career-high 46 shots to lead Binghamton to the 4-3 win. Justin Mapletoft buried his league-leading 4th short-handed marker of the year, while Denis Hamel buried the game-winner late in the third period. Tyler Donati and Lawrence Nycholat also scored for Binghamton, while Alexander Nikulin had two assists.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15th @ BRIDGEPORT (1-2 L): The B-Sens were held in-check by the Sound Tigers on Saturday night, especially their power-play unit which was 0 for 6 on the night. Ilya Zubov buried the lone goal for Binghamton, with Denis Hamel and Alexander Nikulin assisting. Ben Walter scored the game-winner for Bridgeport late in the third period.
THIS WEEK:
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19th @ HERSHEY (7:00): The game had to be re-scheduled due to icy conditions that led to massive power outages on Sunday evening. The Bears (14-10-0-2, 30 pts.) sit just ahead of the B-Sens in the East Division. The Bears have lost three of their last four games, with all three defeats coming at the hands of East Division teams. Grant Potulny (9+8=17) and Kyle Wilson (6+11=17) lead the offensive attack for Hershey. The Bears will have the services of right wing Joe Motzko, who was reassigned to Hershey on Monday morning.
FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21st vs. NORFOLK (7:05): The Admirals (10-15-1-2, 23 pts.) have lost two straight games and currently sits in last place of the East Division. Kyle Wanvig continues to lead Norfolk with 31 points (12+19=31). Jonathan Boutin has six wins between the pipes for the Admirals.
SATURDAY, DECEMBER 22nd vs. ROCHESTER (7:05): The Americans (10-16-1-2, 23 pts.) are struggling of late, dropping six straight and eight of their last 10 games. Clarke MacArthur (9+15=24) and Mark Mancari (6+17=23) lead the Amerks attack. The B-Sens have defeated the Amerks in all three games this season. Lawrence Nycholat and Ilya Zubov each have five points (1+4=5) against Rochester this year, while Josh Hennessy has buried three markers.
SENS IN THE COMMUNITY:
THIS WEEK: B-Sens players will be delivering gifts to kids at the Children's Home of Binghamton and the Catholic Charities Girls Group Home on Thursday following practice. The B-Sens will first stop at the Children's Home of Binghamton, 1182 Chenango Street in Binghamton, at 11:30 a.m. to deliver gifts to 16 children in the Day Treatment Program. The B-Sens will then drop off gifts to eight children at the Catholic Charities Girls Group Home.
SENS SNIPPETS: Denis Hamel has a three-game point streak (1+2=3) and Alexander Nikulin has a two-game assist streak (0+3=3). Justin Mapletoft leads the AHL with four short-handed goals this season.
THE COUNTDOWN TO 200: The Senators are closing in on 200 franchise wins. With their victory over the Crunch on Friday night, the B-Sens have 195 victories. Denis Hamel and Lawrence Nycholat are both nearing the 200 assist mark for their AHL careers. Both players currently have 196 AHL assists.
