
Louisville Takes Series in 7-6 Win

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Los Murciélagos de Louisville (30-52) defeated Los Veleros de Columbus (49-32) by a 7-6 score at Louisville Slugger Field. R.J. Alaniz got his first save of the season not allowing a run in his 2.0 innings pitched and recording three strikeouts.
With two outs in the second, Nick Longhi doubled and Sherman Johnson hit a ball to the third baseman who made a throwing error to allow Longhi to come around and score. Columbus answered in the third with a run of their own when Dioner Navarro and Eric Stamets hit back to back doubles.
Columbus took the lead in the fourth inning after Daniel Johnson started the inning with a double and then was moved to third on a groundout and brought home on a sac fly from Mark Mathias. Los Veleros put another run on the board making the score 3-1 when Navarro hit a home run to start the inning.
For the third straight inning Columbus added to their lead when Johnson hit his second double of the game and came around to score when Trayce Thompson hit a single. Eric Haase followed with a two-run homer to bring the score to 6-1 in the sixth.
Los Murciélagos added runs to the board sixth inning to tie the game when Longhi hit a single with bases loaded to bring in Christian Colon from third. Narciso Crook followed with a double to score Josh VanMeter and Brian O'Grady, then Cassidy Brown hit a single to score Longhi and Crook.
Louisville took the lead in seventh inning with a solo home run from Aristides Aquino putting them up 7-6. The lead remained for the rest of the game for Louisville to pull off their second straight win against Columbus. Crook went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple in the game while Longhi went 2-for-4 with a double.
Both starters in the game made it into the sixth with Vladimir Gutierrez tossing 6.0 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits and striking out five for Louisville and Shao-Ching Chiang tossing 5.1 innings giving up four runs on two hits, walking four and striking out three for Columbus. Eric Stout (1-1, 7.15) got the win for Louisville pitching an inning and throwing one strikeout. The loss went to Chih-Wei Hu for Columbus throwing one complete inning allowing one run on one hit and recording one strikeout.
Louisville stays at home to start a three-game series against the Indianapolis Indians with first pitch set for Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Louisville Slugger Field. Sal Romano (2-7, 5.95) is set to pitch for the Bats and face off against lefty Cam Vieaux (2-0, 3.82) for the Indians.
