Louisville Bats Notes: July 16

July 16, 2018 - International League (IL1)
Louisville Bats News Release

TONIGHT'S GAME: The Louisville Bats start a 7-game road trip in the Empire State, with 3 games against the Rochester Red Wings and 4 against the Syracuse Chiefs. In their first series following the Triple-A All-Star break, the Bats were swept in a four-game series at home by the Columbus Clippers. LOU looks to snap its four-game losing streak tonight with right-hander Keury Mella on the mound.

AGAINST ROCHESTER: The Bats and Red Wings meet for the first time all season. Last season, Louisville went 2-4 against the top farm club of the Minnesota Twins, with Rochester taking two out of three games in both series. In 2016, the Bats swept the Red Wings in 3 games at Frontier Field from June 24-26. After this series, the clubs will meet again at Louisville Slugger Field during the Bats' next homestand.

ONE MAN SHOW: Right fielder Gabriel Guerrero had a monster showing on Sunday, hitting 2 solo home runs which accounted for all of Louisville's runs in the 8-2 loss. It was the Bats' fourth multi-home run game of the season, and the third against the Columbus Clippers. For Guerrero, it was his first multi-homer game since April 13, 2016 while playing for the Double-A Mobile BayBears in the Diamondbacks organization.

LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK: The Bats dropped to a season-high 19 games below the .500 mark with Sunday's 8-2 loss, their fourth consecutive loss to the Columbus Clippers. Louisville fell to 19 games below the .500 mark for the first time in 2017 when they were 33-52, and 20 games below .500 when they were 34-54.

LONG DIVISION: The Bats will face a non-divisional opponent tonight for the first time since June 24 vs. Norfolk, a streak that lasted 18 games. Louisville went 7-11 in the 18 games against Columbus, Indianapolis and Toledo.

CHECK IT OFF THE LIST: The Rochester Red Wings and Buffalo Bisons are the only 2 IL clubs the Bats have yet to face in 2018. Louisville was supposed to face off against Buffalo in a three-game series back in mid-April, but all 3 games were cancelled or postponed due to inclement weather. Louisville and Buffalo are scheduled to meet for the first time on July 24, in a doubleheader at Louisville Slugger Field that will start the Bats' next homestand.

GAME #90: Monday night will mark the Bats' 90th game of the 2018 season. Last year, Louisville owned a 35-55 record after 90 games. In 2016, the Bats were 44-46 at the 90-game mark. The last time the Bats were above .500 after 90 games was the 2014 season, when they owned a 46-44 record.
