Today's Game

This evening, the Buffalo Bisons take on the Norfolk Tides in the first game of a three-game series. Following the tilt with the Tide, Buffalo will play host to the Durham Bulls July 16-22. The last time the Bisons played the two teams was April 20-25 while on the road. The Herd will then have a scheduled off-day on Monday before heading to Louisville and Indianapolis. Buffalo will play three doubleheaders on the road trip (7/24 (LOU), 7/27 (IND), and 7/29 (IND)) as part of the postponed games at Coca-Cola Field in April.

RHP Nick Tepesch gave up all of the IronPigs' runs in the loss on Sunday. Tepesch walked one while allowing twelve hits in 4.2IP INF Gio Urshela had two of the Bisons' five hits on the afternoon and also walked. RHPs Claudio Custodio and Conor Fisk threw a combined 3.1IP of scoreless ball out of the bullpen to quiet the IronPigs' bats.

Norfolk (1-2)

The Bisons and Tides will play their second, and final, series of the season. The last played on April 20-22 at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. The Herd took the middle game of the series with a 8-6 victory. Every Buffalo pitcher who threw in the series in April against Norfolk is no longer on the Bisons' active roster.

Today's Starter: RHP Brandon Cumpton

RHP Brandon Cumpton is making his first start of the season for the Bisons tonight. The righty threw three shutout innings out of the bullpen since joining the Herd on July 5. In those appearances, he recorded his second professional save and first in Triple-A. Cumpton's last start came on August 1, 2014 with Indianapolis (AAA). The start came against the Bisons here at Coca-Cola Field.

Gio Urshela

INF Gio Urshela led the Bisons' offense with two hits and a walk in the loss on Sunday. Urshela now has hits in six of his seven games since joining the Bisons including three multi-hit games (9-26, .346AVG).

Roemon Fields

OF Roemon Fields is tied for the International League lead in stolen bases with 22 (Kevin Newman - Indianapolis). Fields currently sits tied for second place in the Bisons' Modern Era with 67 career stolen bases as well. He is tied with Greg Tubbs (67) and thirty away from Dave Roberts (97), who is a Buffalo Baseball Hall of Famer - 2013.

Transactions

Prior to Sunday's game, RHP Claudio Custodio was added to the Bisons' roster from Dunedin (A-Adv).

Danny Jansen/Bo Bichette

C Danny Jansen was the starting catcher for Team USA in the Futures Game on Sunday. The backstop hit a two-run home run as part of the eight combined long balls hit in the game. Fellow Blue Jays representative INF Bo Bichette was the starting short stop for Team USA and collected a single in the game.

Blue Jays Update

Toronto (43-52) dropped the final game of the series with a 5-2 loss on Sunday. OF Teoscar Hernandez drove in the two Blue Jay home runs off his 15th home run of the season. OF Randal Grichuk and C Russell Martin had two hits each in the loss as well. Toronto and MLB will now be off until Thursday due to the All-Star Break.
