Lancaster Stormers News Release
Derrick Loop picked up his travel weary teammates with a huge effort Friday evening as the Lancaster Barnstormers won their fifth straight game, 5-0, over the Camden Riversharks at Campbell's Field.
Lancaster stayed within two games of the Sugar Land Skeeters for first place in the second half Freedom Division race.
Loop (2-4) fired the first seven shutout innings. The lefty yielded only four hits while walking two and striking out a season-high eight. He was in trouble only once. With two outs in the sixth (ck), D'Angelo Jimenez, who had previously singled twice, picked up a walk. Valentino Pascucci followed with a double to left, putting runners at second and third. Loop bounced back to strike out cleanup hitter Raul Padron to end the threat.
Yoslan Herrera and Kris Regas pitched a perfect inning apiece to nail down the win.
The Barnstormers, fresh off the flight back from an intense four-game series in Texas, were able to take advantage of a young Camden battery early in the game. Camden opened the night with 22-year old Patrick Butler on the hill, making his first pro start. He was working with 23-year old receiver Mike Grieco.
Butler (1-1) walked Jerry Owens and Blake Gailen to start the night. Owens took third on a fly to center by Daryle Ward. Then, Butler made a wild pickoff move to first, allowing Owens to scamper home with the game's first run.
The bats boomed for the only time on the night in the second. Travis Denker launched a doubled to the alley in left center to lead off, and Olmo Rosario walked. Both runners moved up as Butler and Grieco misfired on a pitch. Gustavo Molina, batting against a drawn-in infield, grounded a single past second baseman Delwyn Young to score two. Molina was advanced to second on a bunt, took third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly by Owens for a 4-0 lead.
Lancaster's other run was a tainted tally in the eighth built on a hit batter, walk, wild pitch and passed ball.
The Barnstormers will try to take their sixth straight on the current road trip Saturday at 5:35. Lenny DiNardo (4-7) will make the start for the Barnstormers against right-hander Scott Gorgen (0-3). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC or 1390wlan.com, beginning at 5:15.
