York Revolution News Release
Matt Spencer's fifth inning grand slam highlighted a big offensive attack in support of starter Nick Green, as the York Revolution kicked off a six-game road trip with an 11-7 victory over the Long Island Ducks in front of 5,027 fans at Bethpage Ballpark on Friday evening, making a long day of travel a triumphant one with the victory. The series will continue in Central Islip on Saturday night.
The Revs enjoyed their biggest offensive output since June 27, and their most runs in a win since June 8. Meanwhile, Green (4-5), an Atlantic League All-Star each of the last two years, snapped out of his funk with his first win since May 29, snapping a five-game losing streak and an eight-start winless drought.
Andres Perez provided the Revs with the game's first run on a solo homer to left in the top of the first.
A wild pitch brought home a run for Long Island to tie the score in the bottom of the first inning. The Ducks then took a 3-1 lead in the second on RBI singles by Ralph Henriquez and Joash Brodin.
The Revs came back with a fury, building a seemingly comfortable 9-3 lead. York took advantage of three consecutive walks from Ducks starter Nick DeBarr, scoring three times in the third on a sac fly by Andy Marte, and a two-out, two-run double to left-center by Chad Tracy, giving the Revs a 4-3 lead. Ruddy Yan then singled up the middle to drive in a run in the fourth, and three singles preceded Spencer's slam to right field in the fifth, blowing the game open.
Green cruised into the seventh, retiring 11 straight at one point. Seeking one last inning, however, Green was touched for four runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Brodin and a three-run homer to right-center by Bill Hall, bringing Long Island within 9-7. It soiled Green's stat line, but Green tied his season-high for the third time by lasting seven innings, and picked up the long-awaited victory.
The Revs provided a pair of insurance runs in the ninth as Mark Teahen doubled to left plating a run, and Spencer blooped a single to center, picking up his fifth RBI of the night.
DeBarr (2-8) took the loss, charged with five runs in 3.1 innings of work.
The Revs are now 8-3 against Long Island for the season. It was the first meeting between the two teams since June 3.
York 's Chris Cody (10-6, 3.52) will face former Revs lefty James Houser (7-1, 2.39) on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. Revs fans can catch the action live on SportsRadio 1350, YorkRevolution.com, and on the Shoutcast phone app (YorkRevs) beginning at 6:45 p.m. with Darrell Henry on the call.
