Lancaster Stormers News Release
The season series started as it began, with Lancaster and Sugar Land playing extra innings in Constellation Field.
However, this time around, the Barnstormers struck for three runs in the top of the tenth to take a 7-5 victory from the Skeeters, completing a four-game sweep.
Lancaster has climbed to within two games of the top spot in the Freedom Division's second half.
The Barnstormers' tenth featured plenty of small ball and, for the first time in 20 games against Sugar Land, a defensive collapse on the part of the Skeeters.
Olmo Rosario led off with a perfectly placed bunt single on the third base side. Gustavo Molina pushed a bunt up the first base line. Koby Clemens took the bunt, but his throw to first base was high, deflected off the glove of Aaron Bates covering, and rolled up against the last section of seats. Rosario scored, and Molina ended up at second on the play. Kyle Haines bunted Molina to third. Jerry Owens stepped in and topped a ball up the third base side. This time, it was pitcher Gary Majewski (3-2) making the bad throw on a late attempt to nab Owens, enabling Molina to score and Owens to take second. Daryle Ward capped the inning with a two-out RBI single to left center.
Sugar Land would not fade away. Ross Peeples netted the first out in the 10th. Lancaster went back to the pen for Yoslan Herrera, the Barnstormers' seventh pitcher of the ballgame. Aaron Bates struck out, and Herrera had Ryan Langerhans at 0-2. Langerhans stung a single to center, bringing up DH Eduardo Perez. Again, Herrera worked ahead, 0-2. He could not finish off Perez, who walked. Koby Clemens followed with an RBI single to center to slice one run off the lead, but Dominic Ramos flied to center to end the night and the series.
Adam Godwin had given Sugar Land a quick, 2-0 lead in the first with his third homer of the season, following an error on Jeff Dominguez' grounder. An RBI double by Owens and RBI single to right by Ryan Harvey tied the game in the third.
Sugar Land went ahead a second time on Clemens' 16th home run of the season in the fourth inning off Will Savage. That was answered when Molina cracked a homer down the left field line to start the sixth off Ben Kozlowski.
The Skeeters took the lead, 4-3, in the seventh when Bates drilled a long double to right center off Brian Grening, scoring Travis Scott from first. Blake Gailen forged the third tie with a triple to left center that popped free from Godwin when he hit the ground on a diving attempt. Molina scored from first on the play.
Lancaster heads to Camden to start a three-game series against the Riversharks on Friday night. The Barnstormers will send Derrick Loop (1-4) to the hill against right-hander Patrick Butler (1-0). Fans may tune into 1390-AM, WLAN; 1600-AM, WPDC; 1390wlan.com or the I Heart Radio cell phone app beginning at 6:45.
