Great Lakes Loons News Release

The Great Lakes Loons' offense continued to impress as they defeated the West Michigan Whitecaps Saturday night in front of a season-high 5,611 fans at Dow Diamond by a score 7-6 in Game One of a doubleheader.

With the game tied at one in Game One, Loons outfielder Alfredo Silverio lined a ball down the third base line for a two-run double to give the Loons a 3-1 lead. Whitecaps' third baseman Roger Tomas immediately argued the play and was promptly ejected.

The Loons tacked on four more runs in the fourth thanks in part to Jovanny Rosario's two-run triple to right-center to make it a 7-1 Loons lead.

The Whitecaps battled back off Loons' reliever Blake Brannon and closer Miguel Ramirez, scoring five in the seventh and final inning highlighted by Kody Kaiser's three-run home run which brought the Loons' lead to 7-6.

Silverio, Erik Kanaby, Alex Garabedian and Andrew Lambo led the way for the Loons with two hits a piece in the victory.

Given Kutz (2-0) picked up the victory for the Loons, his second of the season while Manny Miguelez (1-4) picked up his fourth loss of 2008 for the Whitecaps.

Game Two of the doubleheader was suspended due to lightning with the Whitecaps leading 7-0 with one out in the bottom of the fifth inning. The game will be completed Sunday afternoon beginning at 3:05pm prior to the start of the regularly scheduled nine-inning Sunday game.

Prior to the game, the Loons and Farm Bureau Insurance will host a Youth Baseball Clinic beginning at noon, plus a post-game Kids Run the Bases. Tickets are still available by calling 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com.

The Great Lakes Loons are the second-year Single-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers and members of the Midwest League. For more information about the Loons, visit Loons.com or call 989-837-BALL.
