Bandits and Timber Rattlers game suspended
June 7, 2008 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
The Quad Cities River Bandits and the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers played three full innings on Saturday night before nearby lightning and heavy rain forced the game to be suspended with the River Bandits leading 6-1 at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
The suspended game will resume with the top of the fourth inning at 12:05 p.m. on Sunday afternoon and will go the full nine innings of regulation. Quad Cities and Wisconsin will then play Sunday's regularly scheduled contest 30 minutes after the completion of the suspended game. The second game will consist of seven scheduled innings of regulation.
The River Bandits shot out of the gates with a first-inning explosion on Saturday, as the first six men that came to the plate reached base safely. Leadoff hitter Nick Peoples drew a four-pitch walk to get it started and Pete Kozma moved him to second on an infield single. Charlie Kingrey then delivered the big blow of the inning, driving a three-run homer to the opposite field on a 2-0 pitch. Later in the frame the bases were loaded with one out when Luis De La Cruz singled through the left side of the inning to bring home two more runs. After Mike Folli singled to load up the bases again, Peoples capped the rally with an RBI-groundout that gave Quad Cities a 6-0 advantage.
The score was 6-1 when River Bandits starter Chuckie Fick painted the outside corner to strikeout Edilio Colina to end the bottom of the third inning. As the Timber Rattlers' defense took the field for the top of the fourth, a spectacular bolt of lightning lit up the night sky and prompted the umpires to halt the game. Moments later the skies opened up and the tarp was placed the field, sending the game into an extended rain delay until it was officially suspended after 1 hour and 17 minutes.
