Great Lakes Loons News Release

The Great Lakes Loons struck for four runs in the top half of the first inning Wednesday night at Dow Diamond and led the visiting Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-0 when heavy rains began to fall at the ballpark. Following a nearly two-hour rain delay, the Loons' bats fell silent, and the Rattlers rallied for a 6-4 victory.

In the first inning, the Loons (13-19) took a 2-0 lead on a single by Eduardo Perez and added another run on a single by Matt Berezay. Great Lakes took a 4-0 lead on an error by first baseman Leury Bonilla on an attempted pickoff play.

After the delay, the Loons failed to register a hit off the relief trio of Steve Uhlmansiek, Joe Kantakevich and Andrew Barb and the final 16 Loons' batters were retired in order.

Meanwhile the Rattlers (7-22) tied the game with a four-run fourth, with all the runs in the inning charged to Michael Gardner. Wisconsin took the lead with two in the ninth inning as Andy Hargrove drove home two with a single. He had two hits, including a long solo homerun, and three RBIs. Kantakevich (1-1) recorded the win.

Game Three of the Loons/Timber Rattlers' series is Thursday night at Dow Diamond. It is Breast Cancer Awareness Night, presented by MidMichigan Health, and the Loons' will wear pink jerseys. During the game, fans can bid on the game-worn jerseys in a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Pardee Cancer Center at MidMichigan Health-Midland.

Tickets still remain for Thursday night's contest and are available by calling 989-837-BALL or by visiting Loons.com.
