Burlington Bees News Release

Clinton, IA (May 9, 2007) - Matt Morizio and Michael Thompson each went deep to pace the Burlington Bees (13-18) offense in a 6-4 win over the Clinton LumberKings (19-12) at Alliant Energy Field tonight. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Bees and evens this series at 1-1 with the first place LumberKings.

The Bees got on the board first in the top of the first inning against Clinton starter Mike Ballard. Jeff Bianchi lined a two-out double to left-center field and scored on a base hit by Thompson. The lead extended to 2-0 in the fourth inning when Morizio belted his home run to deep right-center field. It was Morizio's first career home run. Bees' starter Brent Fisher kept the LumberKings scoreless through three innings before John Whittleman belted a solo home run in the fourth to get Clinton on the board in the fourth.

The Bees broke the game open with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Joe Dickerson led off with a single and went to second on an error by Craig Gentry in center. Chris McConnell and Bianchi followed with singles to bring in one run and then Thompson hit an 0-2 pitch for a three-run blast to cap off the four-run rally. It is Thompson's seventh home run of the season, his second of this series, and his third of this road trip.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Ryan DiPietro took over for Fisher and the LumberKings rallied back with three runs to cut the lead to 6-4. Chad Tracy drove in one run with a base hit and Whittleman added a two-run double, bud DiPietro struck out K.C. Herren and Mauro Gomez to end the inning and preserve the lead. DiPietro (1-1) went on to work through the eighth and allowed just two more hits and no more runs while striking out a total of six. He picked up the win and Tyler Chambliss earned his first save with a perfect ninth inning.

Ballard (3-3) worked through eight innings and struck out 14, but all six runs against him were earned on eight hits as he took the loss. Brett Zamzow allowed two hits in a scoreless ninth as the Bees totaled 13 hits in the game. Bianchi and McConnell each had three hits apiece while Dickerson, Thompson, and O.D. Gonzalez collected two hits apiece.

The Bees and LumberKings continue this series tomorrow night at Community Field. LH Everett Teaford (1-3, 4.82) will start for the Bees against RH Omar Poveda (3-0, 2.19) for the LumberKings.
