Montgomery Biscuits News Release

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (32-30) struggled to muster any offensive firepower, falling to the first-place Chattanooga Lookouts (34-28), 7-4, Saturday on Harry Potter Night at Riverwalk Stadium. With the loss, Montgomery is now two games back of the North Division lead with eight games remaining in the first half of the season.

Biscuits' starting pitcher Genesis Cabrera (5-4) endured his worst start of the 2018 campaign. The 21-year old was battered by Chattanooga from the onset. The first three Lookouts had hits, capped off by an Edgar Corcino two-run triple. Lookouts' catcher Brian Navarreto added an RBI-double, advancing the lead to 3-0 in the opening frame.

Although Cabrera appeared to settle in, retiring the following five batters, the heart of Chattanooga's order continued to have success. Chris Paul singled, setting the table for James Ramsey, who homered to right-center field in the third.

After Montgomery pitching coach R.C. Lichtenstein visited the southpaw, Lookouts' center-fielder Tanner English chased Cabrera, singling home Chattanooga's sixth run.

While the Lookouts' offense was turning on all cylinders, the Biscuits' bats were silenced by Chattanooga starting pitcher Omar Bencomo (5-0). Bencomo stifled Montgomery, not allowing a hit until the third inning. The right-hander stranded a double by David Rodriguez before a lead-off walk to Ryan Boldt was eliminated by a double play from Nick Solak the next inning.

The Lookouts moved the score to 7-0 on a Navarreto RBI-single in the top of the seventh while the Biscuits remained stifled.

It would not be until the bottom of the seventh that Montgomery was able to blemish Bencomo's performance. Solak sent a fly ball over the right-field porch, scoring the Biscuits' first run with his tenth home run of the season.

Despite a plated run, Bencomo returned to form. The 29-year old squandered a Nate Lowe one-out double, retiring Dalton Kelly and Nathan Lukes to end the seventh. Bencomo then proceeded to post a 1-2-3 eighth inning, before reliever Tyler Jay took over.

Jay struggled in his sole inning of work. The Minnesota Twins number 16 prospect was peppered by the Biscuits. Jake Cronenworth started the attack, reaching on an error. Solak singled to place runners on the corners prior to Lowe plating Cronenworth on an RBI-single.

Even though Kelly cut the deficit to 7-4, doubling home Solak and Lowe, Jay induced a groundout of Nathan Lukes and pop-out of Mike Brosseau, ending the threat.

The Biscuits continue the five-game homestand against the Chattanooga Lookouts Sunday at 5:05 p.m., which features a Sundae Sunday Ice Cream Social, at Riverwalk Stadium. The Biscuits will start Sam McWilliams (1-2), who will be making his second start in the Capital City, while Kohl Stewart (3-3) will take the ball for the Lookouts.

The series also includes Agriculture Night on Monday, June 11, and Summer Splash Day on Tuesday, June 12, which concludes the five-game set.
